Glen, J & R
J & R Glen were John and Robert Glen. Based in Edinburgh, they took over the Glen bagpipe business from their father Thomas in 1867. This name stood until 1979.
This set was one of 12 sets made for the 9th HLI for use in North Africa during the First War. Thanks to Jim Barrie for allowing me to photograph them. I will add more of the story after the weekend. Enjoy, these are a real treasure!!
Set weighs 15 pounds and is made from some type of alloy.Apparently Andrew Ross was an apprentice while these were made, Jim got the story from him directly before he passed.
Could this be pewter? My Mom collects old German pewter, and the patina looks similar.
