Canning, Ryan

Ryan is currently playing a set of 1950′s full ivory mounted Starck bagpipes.  Sheepskin bag with Canning drone reeds, McCallum blackwood chanter with MacPhee reed.

Here is a brief bio on Ryan -

My own background in piping began in Northern Ireland where I began playing bagpipes at the age of 14.  My piping progression was always dictated by pipe bands, and I joined the Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band – four years later in 1997, of which I am still a member.  In my 15+ years as a piper with FMM, I have won 37 major championship titles, including five RSPBA World Pipe Band Championships (2002, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2011).  In addition to being a playing member, it has also been a privilege to be part of the band’s musical development over the years, which subsequently lead to the publication of The Full Monty in 2004, my own collection of piping tunes made famous by their selection for competition and concert sets of the Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band and other top bands around the world.  Although band playing is my main passion, I do enjoy competing in solo competitions and am a regular competitor in the A Grade and Open events in Scotland.  I also enjoy teaching piping, and work a few nights a week as the Evening Class Co-ordinator and teacher at the National Piping Centre in Glasgow
