Morrison, Robert

The following set is stamped “R. Morrison Melbourne”.  Shortly after posting these pictures, I received this wonderful bit of information from Iona MacDonald of the Isle of Skye, Scotland.

My great-grandfather, Robert Morrison, was a piper and bagpipe maker
in Melbourne. He emigrated there from the Isle of Mull, Scotland,
after retiring from the British Army. He arrived in 1880.
He was honorary piper to the Caledonian Society in Melbourne, and was
a noted piping and dancing judge. He was a wheelwright to trade.
I'm not sure how many sets of pipes he made, but the set
he made for my grandfather (his son-in-law) are still playing.
He died in 1927, in Melbourne.

Thanks again to Yann Le Lan of France for the great pictures -

Makers mark stamped just below the bulb of the chanter

Name stamped again near the bottom of the chanter

  3. Any idea of who Munroe Ross was ?

    Thx.

  4. I suppose it would be too much to hope for that this would be the Munro Ross in question:

The dates and location seem appropriate.
